Our Story
All born in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, the Doucettes saved their musical beginning until they moved to Texas in 2007. At tender ages they began singing at church under the strict guidance of David Armistead, and developed a love for their instruments through their annual church music school. With many hours of instruction and mentorship from teachers such as Travis Alltop, Jim Britton, Andy Leftwich, Stephen Mougin, and Jake Workman, the Doucette kids developed a love for Bluegrass Gospel along with traditional Bluegrass music and have blossomed into what you see today. They currently reside in Waller, Texas and are members of Shady Acres Baptist Church in Houston.
Holten
The oldest brother Holten has truly been the leader since day one. Under the guidance of Andy Leftwich, Travis Alltop, and Jake Workman, Holten grew quickly as a musician. His accomplishments include 1st place in Texas state and U.S. Nationals for both mandolin and guitar. Holten has also answered God’s call to preach. Since graduating with a degree in Business Management from Arizona State University, he now keeps himself busy with reading and trading stocks. He plays a Clark mandolin and a Thompson guitar.
Hudsen
After joining the choir and getting a banjo for Christmas back in 2010, Hudsen discovered a love for music that would quickly become a significant part of his life. With the help of his mentors Jim Britton and Jake Workman, he has learned and refined his skills as a banjo player which was demonstrated by his winning 1st place in Texas state in 2017 and 1st place in the National Banjo Competition in 2018. Currently, he sings both lead and harmony vocals for the group and plays a Burlyle Maple Custom banjo as well as a Rayco Custom resonator guitar. After taking several lessons with Jim Britton back in 2011, Hayden discovered his interest in playing the upright bass. With significant time and effort, he has really grown as a musician and part of the band. He currently plays a Collings D1AT guitar. When he is not playing guitar or working on school, one could probably find Harlen reading, playing chess, or finding ways to make everyone laugh.
Hansen
Hansen is the youngest of the group and has truly become an important member of the band over the past several years. While he sings high tenor, he is also quickly growing as a fiddle player and a musician overall. He recently proved his skills when placing top five in Walnut Valley Festival’s Old time fiddle competition. His interests include playing the fiddle, sports, and the Rubik’s cube.
